At The Ocean Cleanup, our mission is to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. To achieve this, we focus on understanding the global plastic pollution problem in depth. This includes studying oceanic and riverine plastics' sources, transport, and fate. By leveraging our in-house research and Autonomous Debris Imaging System (ADIS), we map marine plastic litter and develop innovative solutions to tackle the issue at its root. Our goal extends beyond cleaning the ocean; we strive to prevent more plastic from entering the oceans by intercepting it in rivers and developing ways for waste management and recycling.
Sustainability at The Ocean Cleanup
We directly address SDG 14, Life Below Water, by innovating and implementing systems to clean up and prevent plastic pollution in oceans and rivers. Our work not only reduces the amount of marine debris, but also contributes to the health and productivity of the oceans, which is a core goal of SDG 14.
